Candidate mass, uniformly in the exceptional slot
This page reconstructs Proposition 7.1 of the
weighted-dilation manuscript
for the
extraction of primes 2u-1,
as part of the
elementary estimates of the smooth-successor route.
The candidate and the proposition are OpenAI's; the derivation and the
uniformity accounting are Plasma AI's. The
E4 examination
has a distinct PASS grade, examined on 2026-10-16 UTC, accepting
refutation-failed at its stated classical-premise and parameter scopes.
The grade retains the original-source
reading limits and, for the weighted E3 consumer consequence, its Type II/P
hypothesis.
The candidate is unchanged by the sign of 2u±1: the proposition
concerns u alone.
The candidate
Fix 0<δ<1/4, the smooth Ψ≥0 supported in [1,2] with
Ψ≥cΨ>0 on [α0,β0]⊂(1,2), q=1/2, ℓ=1,
(c1,c2,c3,c4)=(1,56,23,59),
s′=1/(r0(c1+c2)) and sj=s′2−jL, with r0 as on the extraction page
(c2s′<δ and (r0−1)c1/2≥c2+1). The bands are
Qj={p:c1sj≤logp≤c2sj} for 0≤j≤jx, where jx
is the largest j with c1sj≥20T, so jx≤log2L. The P-groups are the
primes with logp∈[c3sj,c4sj] at the scales where this interval lies in
[L1/10,L1/5] (small groups) or [L3/10,L2/5] (big groups). By
Mertens' estimate with error O(1/logy),
uniformly in j≤jx and in g, and each kind of group occurs at
101log2L+O(1) scales. Since c2<c3<c4<2c1, bands and groups are
pairwise disjoint.
Each band has r0 ordered slots holding primes of the band, except one
designated slot of band j∗∗, which holds an integer v0 with
ec1sj∗∗≤v0≤ec2sj∗∗ and P−(v0)>W. Let aQ(v)
be ∏j≤jx(1/r0!) times the number of slot lists with product v,
W1 the marked weight with ℓ=1 (on the
Type II page),
A(u)=aQ(u∗)W1(u), and
Proposition (candidate mass). The early choices are δ,Ψ,r0, the
geometry, a prefix length J1 fixed below from the geometry alone, the
balanced-box index j′, and j0≥max(J1,j′). There are constants
C,CQ,Cup,clow>0 and cmic>0 depending only on these
early choices such that, for every fixed j∗∗≥j0 and every x beyond a
threshold that may depend on j∗∗:
0≤aQ(v)≤τ(v), 0≤A(u)≤LCτ(u∗), and
A(u)≤exp(CL) for u≤2x;
on the support of A(u)Ψ(u/x) every prime factor of u lies in
[L20,xδ];
L−CQ≤HQ≤LCQ;
HP∼exp(q∑gVg), HP≥∏p(1+q/(p−1)) over all P-primes,
and ∑r>xσ,r∗=1W1(r)/r≤exp(−σL3/5)LO(1) for
each fixed σ>0;
the harmonic mass HQmic of the bands j≥j′, the exceptional
slot included, satisfies HQmic≤cmic−1HQ.
Items 5 and 6 are the uniformity in the exceptional-slot position: the balanced
constant Cbal of the extraction, fixed before κ, b1 and
j∗∗, uses only clow, cmic and absolute sieve constants.
The exponent CA=1+CQ is also independent of j∗∗.
Proof
Item 1. Fix the value v0 of the exceptional slot as a divisor of v. The
remaining prime factors of v each lie in exactly one band, so the multiset in
every band is determined, and the number of orderings in a band is at most
r0! (at most (r0−1)! in band j∗∗). So aQ(v) is at most the number
of admissible v0∣v, which is at most τ(v). Every factor of W1 is
qωg−1ωg/Vg≤1/Vg, bounded, over O(T) groups, so
W1≤LO(1). For u≤2x, an admissible v0 divides the part of u∗
composed of primes above W, which has at most log(2x)/L prime
factors with multiplicity, hence at most 2O(L) divisors.
Item 2. Band primes satisfy logp≥c1sjx≥20T and
logp≤c2s′L<δL; v0≤xc2s′ and P−(v0)>W; the P-primes
lie in [exp(L1/10),exp(L2/5)]. A u with A(u)=0 is a product of
these.
The sampling model. Expanding the slot lists,
∑vaQ(v)f(v)/v=HQEf(V), where V is the product of
independent slot variables: a pure slot of band j equals the prime p with
probability p−1/Mj, and the exceptional slot equals v0 with probability
v0−1/Mrough. This also gives
HQ=j=0∏jxr0!Mjr0⋅Mj∗∗Mrough.
Likewise ∑r∗=1W1(r)g(r)/r=HPEg(R) for a random P-integer
R independent of V. Every u with A(u)=0 factors uniquely as u=vr
with v=u∗, and A(u)=aQ(v)W1(r), so
XA=HQHPE[VRΨ(VR/x)].
Item 3. Each factor Mjr0/r0! lies between two positive constants
depending on r0, and there are at most log2L+1 bands. For large x
(depending on j∗∗) every prime of Qj∗∗ exceeds W and is
an admissible v0, so Mrough≥Mj∗∗; and
Mrough≤∑n≤x1/n≤L+1. Hence HQ=L±O(1) with an
exponent independent of j∗∗.
Item 4. For one group put Fg(q)=∏p∈Pg(1+q/(p−1)).
Summing qωg(r)−1ωg(r)/(Vgr) over all integers r composed of
primes of Pg gives $F_g'(q)/V_g=F_g(q)V_g^{-1}
\sum_{p\in\mathcal P_g}(p-1+q)^{-1}$, and HP is the product of these factors
over the groups. Since ∑p∈Pg(p−1+q)−1=Vg+O(∑p−2),
logFg(q)=qVg+O(∑p−2), and ∑p−2 over all P-primes tends to
zero, HP∼exp(q∑gVg). As p−1+q≤p, each factor
Vg−1∑(p−1+q)−1 is at least one, which gives the product lower
bound (the manuscript's (7.6)). For the tail put ξ=L−2/5; every P-prime
has pξ≤e. Replacing 1/pk by p−k(1−ξ) in the same computation
bounds each group's tilted factor by a constant depending on v±, so
∑rW1(r)rξ−1≤LO(1), and
$\sum_{r>x^\sigma}W_1(r)/r\le x^{-\sigma\xi}L^{O(1)}=
\exp(-\sigma L^{3/5})L^{O(1)}$.
Item 5, upper bound. Let p0 be the first slot of band 0, which is pure.
Conditionally on all other slots and on R, with product U′, the event
x≤VR≤2x forces p0∈[x/U′,2x/U′]∩Q0. By Chebyshev's
bound, ∑y<p≤2y1/p≤CCh/logy, and a nonempty intersection
has y=x/U′≥ec1s′L/2; so the conditional probability is at most
CCh/((c1s′L−1)M0)≤C2/L. Thus $\mathbb E[VR\Psi(VR/x)]\le
2x|\Psi|_\infty C_2/L$, and Cup=2∥Ψ∥∞C2 depends only on
the early choices.
Item 5, lower bound. The midpoints mj=2c1+c2sj of all bands
j≥0, each counted r0 times, sum to r0(c1+c2)s′L=L. Put
Δ0=(c2−c1)s′L, the logarithmic width of Q0. Fix J1 with
∑j≥J1r0c2sj≤Δ0/24, and ϵ≤(c2−c1)/(48r0).
Consider the events
Epre: every slot of the bands j<J1 other than p0 has logarithm
in [mj−ϵsj,mj+ϵsj];
EP: logR≤Δ0/12.
These involve fixed numbers of pure slots and the P-part only. As x→∞
each restricted slot has probability tending to
log(c1+c2)/2−ϵ(c1+c2)/2+ϵ/logc1c2>0,
so P(Epre)≥cpre>0 for large x, with cpre
depending on r0,J1,ϵ. By item 4 and HP≥1,
P(EPc)≤exp(−12LΔ0L3/5)LO(1)→0, so
P(EP)≥21. Both events are independent of p0. The slots of
the bands J1≤j≤jx, including the exceptional slot (as
j∗∗≥j0≥J1), have logarithms summing to a number in
[0,Δ0/24], and so do the midpoints of all bands j≥J1, the missing
bands j>jx included; this uses only the range of each slot. On
Epre∩EP therefore
log(VR)−L=(logp0−m0)+dev,dev∈[−12Δ0,6Δ0],
where dev does not depend on p0. The target
log(VR)∈L+[logα0,logβ0] becomes
logp0∈[A0,A0+ℓ0] with ℓ0=log(β0/α0)>0 and
A0=m0−dev+logα0. Since m0 is the midpoint of
Q0, this interval lies at distance at least Δ0/4 from the
ends of logQ0 for large x. The prime number theorem gives
$\sum_{e^{A_0}<p\le e^{A_0+\ell_0}}1/p=\log(1+\ell_0/A_0)+O(A_0^{-2})\ge
\ell_0/(2A_0)$, uniformly for A0≍L, so the conditional probability is
at least c3/L. Hence
E[VRΨ(VR/x)]≥α0xcΨ⋅2Lcprec3,
and clow=α0cΨcprec3/2 does not depend on j∗∗.
With item 3 and HP≥1, XA≥clowxL−1−CQ.
Item 6.HQ/HQmic=∏j<j′Mjr0/r0!, a product of j′
factors each at least (21log56)r0/r0! for large x. The
exceptional slot lies in a micro band because j∗∗≥j0≥j′, so it
cancels from the ratio. □
The order of choices
The proposition is used in the extraction's order. The prefix length J1,
the balanced-box pair (j′,θ) and j0 are fixed from the geometry; then
κ is fixed using Cbal, which depends on clow,
cmic, the micro-band harmonic identity and absolute sieve constants,
none of which depends on j∗∗; then b1, b∗=b1/3 and j∗∗ with
c2s′2−j∗∗<b∗/4. Only the threshold for x depends on j∗∗:
through j∗∗≤jx, the primes of Qj∗∗ exceeding W, and
the prime number theorem on the bands. The exceptional slot enters the lower
bound only through its deterministic range, and the upper bound not at all.
